Wonderland LP Record & Digital Link to Music

At Wonderland Ave Elementary School, the student body has been harmonizing to the tunes of Laurel Canyon classics to raise essential funds for their school.

Nestled in the heart of the legendary Laurel Canyon, all the students (along with some of its musical parents and teachers) are channeling the spirit of musical icons who once roamed their neighborhood streets. From Joni Mitchell's poetic melodies to CSNY’s rich harmonies and the Byrd’s lyricism, the students' renditions transport listeners back to a bygone era of creativity and cultural revolution.

The project was conceived (and is being executed) by Grammy-winning music producer and Wonderland parent Thom Russo, with the help of the schools Grammy-winning music instructor, Erin Barnes. The talented Wonderland community is also contributing. The album includes Wonderland parents Priscilla Ahn, Sweet Talk Radio (Tim Burlingame and Kathrin Shorr), Oliver Kraus, Dan McKenzie, Sarah Silverman, Alanna Ubach (w Thom Russo), and Rachel Robinson. Beloved Wonderland teachers Wes Dimond and Chris Austin lend their musical talents by playing guitar on several tracks. Even the school's resident punk band, “the War Pigs” are featured. The entire recording project is being documented by Wonderland parents; the gifted videographer Robin Burke and photographer Will Changpradith. With every note sung, these students, teachers and parents embody the ethos of communal support and artistic expression.

Their fundraising efforts underscore the importance of music education while fostering a deep appreciation for the cultural heritage that surrounds them. Not only are they honoring musical history but also demonstrating the power of music education and community engagement.

Through this musical tribute, Wonderland Ave Elementary School students are preserving the legacy of Laurel Canyon and building a brighter future for their school.
